Sometimes, the kitchen can get you down. Something goes wrong, and you don’t know why (or maybe you do) and it’s frustrating as heck. I have problems when I bake just like everyone else – I’m not the only one, right? – and I always have to remind myself that life goes on. And usually, the mistakes are pretty tasty anyway.
Kitchen problems are precisely why I’m sharing homemade peanut butter with you guys today. It’s foolproof and just about the easiest recipe I can possibly give you. It’s really more a technique, or even a tip, than a recipe, but either way it’s something you should know about, because it’s DE-LICIOUS. Is it better than store-bought Peanut Butter? In a crazy way that I don’t quite understand – YES.
Homemade Peanut Butter is a little different than your average Skippy or Jif (definitley just wrote that as Jiffy and Skip), and as much as I’ve always been happy with my Skippy PB, I’m kind of in love with this homemade stuff. It’s not as sweet, it’s truer in flavor, and it has a little bit of texture that I love, even though I’ve always been a creamy peanut butter girl. Plus, it doesn’t have the added oil or sugar, so I actually can feel good about eating this peanut butter as a snack, which is something I’ve been doing a lot of lately. I love it.
So here’s my gift for you today – something that’s easy and foolproof – something you can rely on when things just don’t seem to be working the way you want them to. If life’s got you frustrated, I’m pretty sure homemade peanut butter will make you feel better. :)
DIY Peanut Butter
Homemade, all-natural Peanut Butter is perfect for a healthy snack. It’s so tasty and easy to make!
- Yield: approx. 1 cup peanut butter
- 10 ounces (2 cups) unsalted peanuts*
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, adjust to taste
- Place peanuts in a food processor and process until crumbly like the texture of almond meal. Sprinkle the salt over top and continue to process until it has reached the consistency of a smooth nut butter. Wipe down the processor with a spatula during this process if needed.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
*I used Planters Roasted and Unsalted Peanuts, which I found at Target. You can also find unsalted peanuts and Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.
