So today, we have two orders of business.
One involves ice cream. And cupcakes, fudge sauce, whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and… sprinkles. You know it’s gonna be good.
The other involves a GIVEAWAY!! Also a good thing, for sure.
So, first things first – Ice Cream Sundae Cupcakes. I’m not actually sure that I’ve ever had a proper ice cream sundae before, so you could say I made these in an attempt to remedy that problem, but with a cupcake twist. In truth, my idea started out as cupcakes that look like sundaes, but don’t actually have any ice cream. But then I remembered last summer’s Ice Cream Cupcake Peanut Butter Cups, and I realized that – hello?! – why would I skip the ice cream? So I didn’t, and I ended up with these beauties: chocolate cupcake layer on the bottom, followed by Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, whipped cream, chocolate fudge sauce, homemade maraschino cherries (which is why they’re not a very fake color of red) and sppprrinkllles. Because a sundae without sprinkles is just… not as fun. I made these for Best Friends for Frosting (which just relaunched their gorgeous new site!), so you can find the recipe there!
Today I’m giving away a free copy of Tasty Food Photography, an e-book written by the very talented Lindsay from Pinch of Yum. I’ve admired Lindsay’s photography ever since I discovered her blog, and the newly updated version of her ebook is an awesome resource for anyone trying to improve their food photography (which I know I’m ALWAYS trying to do)! The book covers all sorts of essential photography knowledge and techniques starting with the technical stuff (as in what the heck is Aperture, Shutterspeed, and ISO?!) and moving on to lighting, composition, set-up, props, editing and more. What I personally love about the book, though, is that it’s not just an impersonal, boring photography book. You learn crazy little things like tricks for photographing soup and keeping your food looking fresh. You also get the inside scoop on how to juggle the work of food photography with everything else in your busy life. AND, there are videos; told you this wasn’t just another eBook!

I’ve discovered firsthand that if you want to learn food photography or improve what you already know, the best thing you can do is get your hands on some good reading and practice, practice, practice.
